Oh Baby! Our Tea-Party- Themed Baby Shower!
Let me just start off by saying that having a baby shower was not at all in the plan for us.
With deciding to buy a house this past January and all the packing and moving involved, it all seemed like too much of an undertaking; and my husband Tommy & I honestly didn’t think we’d have the patience nor the time to plan one.
But after thinking it through, we decided we wanted to celebrate this memorable milestone in our lives with the people that we loved the most! And why not have a reason to party after being locked up due to quarantine for over a year and a half?
With the help of family and friends, we were able to throw a baby shower that was just the right dose of elegance and full-on party vibes (#45SHOTS - you had to be there LOL).
Planning
The planning process was actually not as daunting as I initially thought it would be. But that’s because ya gurl started planning in March since I knew I wanted to pace myself and not wait until the last minute. During the process, I learned a few tips that helped me navigate the whole process as seamlessly as possible:
1) Leverage help from family and friends
Family and friends are always willing to help, and ours came in clutch with coming up with ideas, picking up items, and keeping things running smoothly all day long at the actual baby shower. Remember that you CANNOT do everything on your own, therefore if people are offering to help in some way, take it. Learning to accept help is a skill, and it’s one that I’m learning to get better at.
2) Pick a Theme
Initially, I was not on the “themed” baby shower bandwagon because I thought it would result in a tacky baby shower to be quite honest. We didn’t want anything “too” literal like Minnie mouse or bumblebee decor. Nothing wrong with that, but just wasn’t the vibe we wanted. But picking a theme helps pull your entire idea and concept together, instead of just centering the event around a color scheme, which is what I was doing at first. Pick a theme, find ways to bring the theme to life, and you’ll be able to do it in a way that is reflective of your particular style and aesthetic you’re going for.
3) Make a Powerpoint presentation outlining your ideas
You might be thinking this is a bit overkill, but it wasn’t for me LOL. I created a google slides PowerPoint to house all of my ideas regarding decor, venue options, catering, desserts, favors, etc. If you’re busy and Type A like me, I think you will find value in spending 30 minutes to put together a comprehensive plan for your baby shower or any event. I didn’t want to spend money on an event planner because “why”? Didn’t seem like a necessary expense. This is the perfect way to plan seamlessly and efficiently.
4) Order decor and materials off Amazon
When it came to all the decor and supplies needed, I ordered everything to bring the theme to life off good ole Amazon. Prime is your best friend :)
5) Add an activity that will “WOW” guests
Not all baby showers are created equal, and you can do little things to have it reflect your personality as well. For example, we didn’t want to play too many games and wanted it to be more of a socializing event, so we kept the games to a minimum.
Decide on the vibe you want and what “activity” or “entertainment” will bring the event together. For example, we knew we needed an open bar which was a non-negotiable. And we decided on a photo booth because we knew it would keep guests engaged and having fun for the entire duration of the event. The options are endless in terms of what will bring the “wow” factor to your event and make it memorable.
